Abstract:

The adherence property of 70 verotoxigenicE. coli (VTEC) strains, not belonging to O157: H7 serotype (non-O157) was checked on HeLa cells adherence assay. These strains were isolated from patients with diarrhea and healthy individuals. The results obtained in this study revealed that localised adherence (LA) was manifested by 3 strains of which two belonged to serogroups O111, O127 and the third one was non-enteropathogenicE. coli. The LA pattern was not found among strains isolated from healthy persons (P<0.001). Diffuse adherence (DA) was exhibited by six strains equally distributed among both groups and none of them belonged to enteropathogenic strains. However, aggregative adherence (AA) was manifested by 9 strains and was the most frequent among VTEC strains isolated from diarrheal cases (P<0.001) and was comprised of non-enteropathogenicE. coli strains. Non-specific adherence (NSA) was observed in 17 strains. Overall, the results obtained revealed that AA and LA adherence were significantly (P<0.001) associated with strains isolated from patients.

Phylogenetic analysis of Escherichia coli strains isolated from human samples

Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a normal inhabitant of the gastrointestinal tract of vertebrates, including humans. Phylogenetic analysis has shown that E. coli is composed of four main phylogenetic groups (A, B1, B2 and D). Group A and B1 are generally associated with commensals, whereas group B2 is associated with extra-intestinal pathotypes. Most enteropathogenic isolates, however, are assigne...

Serotypes and antibiotic resistance of verotoxigenic (VTEC) and necrotizing (NTEC) Escherichia coli strains isolated from calves with diarrhoea.

Serotypes and antibiotic resistance of 51 Verotoxigenic (VTEC) and 33 Necrotizing (NTEC) bovine Escherichia coli strains were determined and compared with those shown by 205 non-VTEC non-NTEC strains isolated from the same batch of calves. E. coli untypable for O-antigen represented 47% of the VTEC, 12% of the NTEC and 8.8% of the non-VTEC non-NTEC. Typable VTEC belonged to serotypes 02:K?, 010...

Survey frequency of verotoxigenic Escherichia coli (VTEC) in raw milk at Kerman city

Diarrhea is an important hygienic problem in under development countries. Among pathogenic agents Escherichia coli is the most etiologic agent of diarrhea in children below five years old. Some E. coli strains produce cytotoxins that have cytopathic effect on vero cell and identified as verotoxin. This study performs for resolve frequency of Vero Toxigenic Escherichia coli...
